The Library, as the IFLA Preservation and Conservation Center for Arab Countries and the Middle East, invites you to this lecture on the role that the Manuscript Processing and Preservation Laboratory plays in preserving manuscripts in non-governmental libraries in the historic city of Chinguetti, Mauritania. The laboratory is part of the National Foundation for the Protection of Ancient Cities in Mauritania.

The lecture will be presented by Al-Mustafa Muhammad Salih, Director of the Manuscript Processing and Preservation Laboratory in Chinguetti, Mauritania.

Moderated by Ikhlas Ahmed, Tours and Exhibitions Officer, Qatar National Library.

There are an estimated 40,000 Mauritanian manuscripts. In Chinguetti, more than 4,000 of these manuscripts are distributed among 17 non-government libraries, and include rare manuscripts and documents in all fields. Some of these manuscripts were written on deer parchment.
