Launched in  Lyon at the IFLA World Library and Information Congress on 17 August 2014 in front of an audience of 250+ this initiative has really captured the imagination of library colleagues worldwide. The Public Libraries Section was delighted to partner with the IFLA Library Buildings and Equipment Section for this session.

At the time of writing 56 libraries from 13 countries have been nominated and added to the 1001 Libraries to See Before You Die blog. Libraries can be nominated for a number of reasons – the library building, the location, the innovative programs or the community engagement.

Several of those already nominated claim to be 'the most beautiful library in the world'. We invite you to head over to the site and make your own decision.
