As primarily public institutions, libraries depend strongly on support from their governments, both in terms of laws and funding. Ensuring that those in power recognise and build on the potential of libraries is at the heart of IFLA's advocacy work.

IFLA is therefore honoured to speak at the second Round Table of Ministers Responsible for Public Libraries in Africa, following a first edition at the time of the 2015 World Library and Information Congress in Cape Town.

At this meeting, IFLA Secretary General Gerald Leitner will underline the work of IFLA to support libraries across Africa, and call on Ministers to place libraries at the heart of their development policies.
