IFLA IAP Global Convening

IFLA will hold a Global Convening of its International Advocacy Programme (IAP) in New York on 28-29 June 2018. After six regional workshops and nearly two years of hard work in raising awareness on the UN 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and advocating to earn libraries the recognition they deserve as partners for development, this will be an opportunity to celebrate, share, and look to the future.

Nearly 40 IAP participating countries will be joining the event. They will have the chance to inspire others, hear the best ideas from other countries and regions, receive the latest on the UN 2030 Agenda process, and come up with ideas to work with IFLA in moving up a gear

The Global Convening will begin the preparatory work for further library involvement in the review of the SDGs as a whole in 2019, particularly on those SDGs that relate to the core work of libraries: Quality Education, Decent Work, and Access to Information.

The event will feature a seminar titled “Showcase: Libraries as Partners for Development including presentations of exceptional work by IAP participants, and honoured by the presence of UN officials and representatives from Permanent Missions to the United Nations in New York.

Moreover, a workshop SDG Storytelling for Showing the Impact of Libraries will take place as part of the programme, to help participants make the most of the IFLA Library Map of the World, and in particular the SDG Stories, to power their own advocacy work and show the impact of libraries in sustainable development.

IFLA looks forward to sharing outcomes from the event, including opportunities at the upcoming World Library and Information Congress in Kuala Lumpur.
