  • For drafting a Multicultural Library Manifesto that brings
    international attention to the role of libraries in serving diverse communities;
  • For identifying within the Manifesto the mission of
    providing multicultural library services along with management and operation of
    such services;
  • For describing the core actions of a multicultural library,
    staff needs, and needs related to funding, legislation, and networking;
  • For suggesting how libraries can implement the Manifesto;
  • For taking steps toward the UNESCO endorsement of the
    Manifesto;
  • For drawing attention to the need for libraries to
    participate in efforts that preserve indigenous languages and culture.
