E-Lending review in English public libraries

The department of Culture, Media and Sport in the UK today published the Sieghart review on E-lending in English public libraries. This government commissioned review states that E-lending should be free as well as a service that should be offered remotely to library users. It furthermore suggest to extend Public Lending Rights (PLR) to Ebooks. IFLA has been consulted and provided input to the review.

The panel of experts responsibile for the review are:

  • Janene Cox, President, Society of Chief Librarians and Commissioner for Tourism & Culture, Staffordshire County Council

  • Roly Keating, Chief Executive of the British Library and formerly Director of Archive and Content for the BBC

  • Caroline Michel, CEO Peters Fraser & Dunlop

  • Stephen Page, Chief Executive of Faber & Faber

  • Jane Streeter, bookseller and former President of the Booksellers Association

  • Joanna Trollope OBE, author.
