All children and young adults deserve top quality library services. The Section connects librarians from around the world who serve children and young adults.

What We Do

This IFLA section promotes library services for children and young adults all over the world. We encourage the exchange of best practices including library experiences, education, training, and research in all aspects of library service to this population.

The C&YA Section:

  • Cooperates with other organizations involved in young people and literacy
  • Creates guidelines for library services
  • Arranges satellite conferences, off-site meetings, panels, programs, and lectures
during the annual IFLA congress, at our mid-year meeting, and at other venues
  • Connects libraries who want to exchange views and experiences
  • Highlights best practices

We lead various programs and projects such as The World through Picture Books, Sister Libraries, and the Best Practices YouTube playlist.

Working Together

The C&YA Section works in cooperation with other IFLA Sections and international reading and library associations, including the International Literacy Association (ILA), the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) and the International Children’s Digital Library (ICDL). We are also a nominating body for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA).
